The Microsoft help for surface requires a product identifier and references the bottom of the Surface as indicating 'Surface RT' 'Surface Pro' etc. None of the options are just 'Surface' which is what the one we've recently acquired (company one) says.
There's no place on the MS Surface support website to just put in a serial number without designated the product. Why can't MS do what Dell does and just allow a serial number entry and pull up all the pertinents associated with product (specs, warranty, updates etc)? Anyway - I just need to figure out what model surface this is and determine it's specs. It's running like. and I need to research some reviews on it. Thanks in advance!
BTW - even posting here requires identifying the specific product within the Surface lineup. It would nice if MS help actual represented the product (i.e. Knowing there's Surfaces out there with just 'Surface' by the serial number). Setup exe downloads install.

Surface RT: These all-black, first-generation models list the term Windows RT beneath a Windows logo. You’ll also see the amount of listed as either 32GB or 64GB. The kickstand’s visible side shows a Windows logo. Surface Pro: These first-generation models list the term Windows 8 beneath the Windows logo.
You’ll also see the amount of storage, 64GB or 128GB. Surface 2: These look much like the Surface RT tablets, down to the term Windows RT listed beneath the Windows logo. However, these second-generation tablets have a black front with a silver back. Beneath the kickstand, the amount of storage is listed as either 32GB or 64GB. The serial number of your Surface, needed for warranty and service information, is printed directly beneath the word Surface under the kickstand. The serial number of a Surface keyboard is printed on the right edge of its spine — that raised edge that clicks onto the Surface when attaching the keyboard. Before buying a used Surface on, make sure the seller posts a clear photo of the information printed beneath the kickstand. That way you know exactly what’s being sold.
I just ran into the problem of needing to have my SP4 replaced due to damage, but since I returned it twice prior to that for dead pixels, they never attached the new serial number to the warranty. MS told me: 'You should have attached the serial to the warranty when you were in the store.'

I laughed and said, 'I tried to, but you yelled at when I went behind the counter.' I ended up having to contact online support in the MS Store to get the whole thing sorted out. Some of these store personnel are kind of useless. Nothing comes up for me. Not even an indication that I have a Surface Pro, much less a warranty.
It shows up on my devices page, but there's no way to check the warranty - just that it has a registered Windows 10 Pro license. If I check elsewhere I get this: How can I tell if my Surface is still under warranty? Check your warranty status online.
